The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have sent warning letters to 23 U.S. companies and two foreign companies marketing products that fraudulently claim to prevent and cure cancer.

The FDA advises consumers against purchasing or consuming products which include: teas, tonics, tablets and creams and that are sold under various different names on the Internet.

A complete list of fake cancer cure products and manufacturers along with a consumer safety article can be found on the FDA’s website.

"Although promotions of bogus cancer 'cures' have always been a problem, the Internet has provided a mechanism for them to flourish," said Margaret O'K. Glavin, the FDA's associate commissioner for regulatory affairs. "These warning letters are an important step to ensure that consumers do not become the victim of false 'cures' that may cause greater harm to their health."
Consumers are urged to consult their doctor before discontinuing use of the products and to seek medical attention if they experience any adverse health effects associated with use.

Because the products claim to cure, treat and prevent disease, these products have not been shown to be safe and effective for their labeled use and they are unapproved drugs marketed in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act.
