Combi USA is voluntarily recalling over 67,000 infant car seats because the seat can separate from the base resulting in injury, in the event of a crash. Should the seat separate, the child would not be adequately protected.

The car seat recall includes the entire line of infant seats from October 2005 to December 2007, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Included in the recall are: Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle with model numbers 8065, 8074, 8086, 8087 and 8520. Also included in the recall are associated travel systems with model numbers 4400, 4515 and 4520.

In a release Monday, the Combi USA said it will offer free retrofit kits to consumers who contact the company, but that it could take 6 to 8 weeks to get them.

Consumers are advised not to use the unsafe car seats and to contact Combi at 1-800-543-7734 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
