Four Teens Injured in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident

Two teenagers are at Massachusetts General Hospital and another is at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following an alleged drunk-driving car accident on Saturday, after the Ford Crown Victoria they were in struck a utility pole, a wall and then a parked car before coming to rest on its side.

Police received a crash report near the corner of East Woodcrest and Upham Streets, on Saturday just after midnight. When police arrived, they found one utility pole in half.

Three teenagers were standing outside the vehicle when police arrived on the scene. One male was trapped inside the vehicle and one female was trapped beneath the vehicle. The two trapped victims were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The female suffered broken ribs and a broken pelvis bone, while the male had underwent extensive surgery to repair a broken back. The other teens were taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for minor injuries.

Both front air bags deployed in the crash, but police were unable to determine if seat belts were buckled at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, 18, refused treatment at the scene. He was arrested and charged with DUI that led to serious injury and speeding.
